English Proficiency Tests

Concordia College requires all nonnative English-speaking international applicants to demonstrate English proficiency.  Students wishing to join Concordia's academic programs can do this by:

  • Submitting acceptable test score results for one of the English tests listed below.  You may email a PDF copy of your official TOEFL or IELTS score report to intl@cord.edu or have your official Duolingo English Test results sent to us.
  • Submitting acceptable results from the ACT or SAT exam sections listed below
  • Completing 2 full years of secondary school (or higher) in the United States or another predominately English speaking country listed below
  • Using one of the alternative means listed at the bottom of this web page.

Applicants completing the TOEFL test, please send your official results to Concordia College using our TOEFL school code of 6113.  You may also create a PDF copy of your official score report and email that to intl@cord.edu and we will verify your result online.

Applicants completing the IELTS test, we request that your official test scores be sent to us from your testing agency.  If you let us know your Test Report Form (TRF) number, we can also check your result online.

Alternative Proficiency Demonstrations

While we prefer the above testing methods, alternative ways of demonstrating English proficiency are possible. Prospective students may also demonstrate their English proficiency the following ways:

  • From Norway (with grade 4 or higher in English), or from Sweden (with grade of B or higher in English), or from Finland (with grade of 9 or 10 in English)
  • Successfully pass grade Pre-1 of the Japanese STEP Eiken test in Practical English Proficiency 
  • IB student taking English A or B, Higher or Standard level, with a final score of 5 or higher
  • ELS Language Center Certificate: Level 112 completion
  • Completion of 4 or more semesters at a high school where English is the medium of instruction (Freshmen)
  • Evidence of having completed at least 24 transferable credits from an accredited two or four year post-secondary institution in the U.S. by the time of enrollment at Concordia (and evidence of having completed the full freshmen English requirements with a C- or better)
  • Students on short term study abroad, an official exchange program, or non-degree academic programs, as verified by Global Learning or Office of Admission, such as a partner institution abroad where the degree program of study is in English meet the English proficiency requirement.

NOTE: Applicants who do not meet any of these requirements within the last 2 years may be required to submit additional proof of English proficiency including new standardized test scores.
