2006-07 Department Awards and Research
• Once again, Concordia’s student research has been highlighted on a national level.
Josh Pederson ’07 and
Sarah Schwartz ’07, along with CSTA faculty, traveled to the
National Communication Association’s 92nd annual convention in San Antonio, where they presented their research on ethnocentrism and high school speech programs.
• The CSTA department was honored at the National Communication Association conference in November, receiving the 2006 Rex Mix Program of Excellence Award. The award is given based on several key components including quality of curriculum design and implementation of undergraduate research, along with additional programs such as internships, faculty mentoring and service-learning efforts.
• It has been another victorious year for the Cobber speech team. After winning their 17th state championship, the team competed at nationals in Mankato, Minn. Eleven students placed during state competition, with first-place winners including

Shanna Granstra ’07,
