Learn about the science and global impacts of climate change from a research team which has drilled and analyzed ice cores from mountain glaciers and ice caps in the tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world. The Thompsons run the ice core paleoclimatology research group at the Byrd Polar Research Center, which has drilling projects on five continents.

A changing climate may have its most far-reaching effects on developing nations which are vulnerable to intensifying storms, lacking in energy resources and prey to rising oceans. What are they owed by the nations which produce the most greenhouse gases? Vy Nguyen, a pastor in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and refugee from Vietnam, will speak to questions of justice.

Carmen Miller, North Dakota Representative, Pew Environmental Group, Bismarck, N.D.
Three experienced energy experts will discuss the future of electric power generation in the region. They will connect their understandings of how the climate is changing to proposals regarding future development of coal, nuclear, oil, gas, wind and other fuel sources.

Department of Geological and Atmospheric Science, Iowa State University, Ames
John Flicker, President,
National Audubon Society
Eugene Takle will draw from extensive regional climate data and modeling to explain the implications of climate change for regional weather and agriculture. John Flicker, a Minnesota native and long an advocate for preserving natural ecosystems intact, will outline what impact climate change will have on the flora, fauna and general health of regional ecosystems.
