Exploration Seminars
Exploration Seminars take place during the week of spring or fall break to enhance what you learned in a semester class. These domestic or international trips give you the chance to understand how your study in the classroom relates to the world outside. Last year’s Exploration Seminars led Concordia students to Brazil, Japan, London, Egypt, Austria, Germany and many other exciting countries.
Walk the same Stratford Upon Avon cobblestone streets as Shakespeare while exploring the grandeur of Renaissance art and architecture. Sample a taste of the English countryside as part of an English department Exploration Seminar. Or fly to the heart of South America to explore Brazilian culture and health care while touring hospitals and public health agencies. This cram-packed week includes a traditional Brazilian Churrasco, or barbeque, and a relaxing day on the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.
No matter what your major, Concordia has an Exploration Seminar that allows you to delve into your own interests to find your place in the world.

May Seminars
May Seminars are a long-standing symbol of Concordia’s dedication to exposing students to new cultures and ways of thinking. Since 1969, May Seminars have given thousands of Concordia students the chance to travel the globe and witness nearly all of the recognized wonders of the world. May Seminars alone have guided nearly 6,500 students during their studies in more than 50 countries on six continents.
Every May, around 150 students travel on faculty-led voyages that give them a chance to enrich classroom experiences for academic credit. This one course credit can be applied to academic requirements for your major.
With our expert faculty as your guides, you can study at historical sites such as the Louvre in Paris and Stonehenge in England or even post-Aparteid South Africa. Other opportunities include interact with government officials, business leaders, artists, academics and other experts.
A recent May Seminar was “Drumming, Dancing, Art and Culture in Ghana” led by Dr. Jeff Meyer of the music department. During their month in Africa, students had the chance to work directly with Ghanaian artists while singing, playing the xylophone, and exploring kente weaving, batik dyeing, drum making, carving and blacksmithing. Students were invited to create music and dance forms surrounded by rich, ancient African tradition.
Other recent May Seminars included studying the breathtaking world of the ancient art of Paris, Florence and London, learning French in the culturally diverse country Cameroon, West Africa, and exploring the effects of Apartheid in South Africa with the sociology and religion departments.
