1. Are there additional requirements for admission to this program?In addition to the admissions criteria listed, teaching experience will be beneficial to students seeking to develop master’s level skills in teaching world languages.
2. What is the deadline for admission to Master of Education program?
The program operates on a rolling admission basis. Review of applicant files will begin March 1, 2011 and will continue through May 1, 2011 or until the cohort is filled.
3. What are the dates for the program?
Summer Session I: July 5-29, 2011
Fall Semester I: Sept. 1-Dec. 16, 2011
Spring Semester I: Jan. 11-May 5, 2012
Summer Session II: July 5-29, 2012
Fall Semester II: Aug-Dec 2012 (dates to be announced)
Total number of semester hours for program: 34
4. What is the cost of the program?*
Tuition: $420/semester hour plus $22/semester hour for library/technology fee*
Room and Board: $1,625/summer session at Concordia Language Villages*
* Rates apply to July 2011 through May 2012.
5. Where do students stay during the summer courses?
Both classrooms and dorm rooms on the campus of Bemidji State University will be used during the summers. This site is nearby the Concordia Language Villages, allowing observation, interaction and on-site learning throughout the program. Transportation to the villages will be provided as needed.
6. What sort of equipment do I need in order to participate in the online portion of the Masters Program?
AMLA 610 and AMLA 612 are fully online courses! So, in non-technical terms, you need a computer that is fairly new (last 2 – 3 years preferable, 5 should be OK). You need to have internet access, and broadband or cable access is recommended. Your school or local library probably has this if you do not. You will also need a microphone, headset, and camera (all can be purchased for less than $100). As for software, the standard programs on most computers should suffice (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel or equivalents). There is a free version (Open Office) that has all of these programs if you need them. Otherwise, everything that we do comes in a free version.
