Transfer Students FAQs

1. How do I apply?
You can either mail in an application or save the $20 fee by applying online. You will need to request that a copy of your transcript from the college you are currently attending and any other post-secondary institutions you may have attended be sent to us.

2. Does Concordia accept the Minnesota Transfer Curriculum?
Concordia reviews transfer students’ course credits on a course-by-course basis. Most credits will transfer. Our transfer coordinator can help you determine how classes you are currently taking, or have taken, will fit into Concordia’s curriculum.

3. Will I get the classes I need?

All of the students at Concordia find they most often get the classes they need, including transfer students.

4. Will I have an advisor?

For your initial registration, you will work directly with the Registrar or a Faculty member. After that, you will have a permanent adviser. If you have declared a major, the adviser will be from that department.

5. What scholarships are available for transfer students?

Transfer Student Academic Scholarships

Transfer student scholarships based on your college GPA and range from $5,000 -$9,000 a year. No separate scholarship application is needed.

  • Phi Theta Kappa Honor Scholarship- In recognition of your collegiate academic achievements and participation in the Phi Theta Kappa honors program, this $1000 renewable scholarship is offered in addition to your Transfer Student Academic Scholarship from Concordia College.
  • Transfer Honor Program Scholarship - In recognition of your collegiate academic achievements and participation in approved two-year college honor programs, this $1000 renewable scholarship is offered in addition to your Transfer Student Academic Scholarship from Concordia College.

Music Scholarships

Music Performance Scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen and transfer students in recognition of excellence in music performance. All students - regardless of major - are eligible for the $2,500/year scholarship. Scholarships are awarded in piano, voice, guitar, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion and composition. If you are selected as a recipient, you will be expected to enroll in private music lessons and participate in an ensemble in the area of your award. To be eligible for a Music Performance Scholarship, you must be an incoming first-year or transfer student who has been accepted for admission to Concordia College, have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA, and have exhibited proficiency in vocal, instrumental or piano performance. The initial screening will be based on the Music Scholarship application, two recommendations and an audition recording (or composition portfolio).

Concordia Congregational Scholarship

These scholarships match congregational scholarships of up to $1,000 per year for a Lutheran student and up to $400 per year for a non-Lutheran student. Applications are due no later than Aug. 15.

6. Do I need to re-apply for student loans if I already have them?

Yes. Loans are not transferable between colleges, so you need to cancel the loans at your current school and reapply at Concordia.

7. How are roommates assigned? Will I be matched with another transfer student?

Roommate assignments are made by a member of the Student Affairs Office who reviews the personal information provided by each student. Every effort is made to match students according to that information.

8. Will I fit in? How will I get to know other students?

All Concordia first-year and transfer students participate in Orientation prior to the start of classes each fall. You’ll be part of a transfer student Orientation Club with other transfer students for these days of fun activities designed to help you meet new people and adjust to campus life.

9. How do I go about auditioning for a music ensemble or join other clubs or organizations on campus?

In the fall, all music ensembles have open auditions, and most clubs and organizations are open to new members throughout the year.
