CENTENNIAL SCHOLARS LECTURE ON CREATING POETRY ANTHOLOGY
Dr. Jonathan Steinwand, chair and professor of English, will present a Centennial Scholars Series lecture, “Environmental Justice Poetry: Creating a Global Anthology for Use in Literature and Environment Courses,” at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, in Morrie Jones Conference Center, Knutson Campus Center.
Although literature and environment courses are popular, there is a lack of global anthologies of poetry regarding our relationship to nature and none that focus on how environmental justice and social justice are intertwined. Steinwand and co-inquirers Kirsten Lusty ’15, Alexandria, Minn., and Siri Manning ’14, Breckenridge, Minn., read thousands of poems, choosing those that met their criteria for creating a global anthology of poetry. They’ll discuss their findings and share several examples of poems included in the collection.
The lecture is free and open to the public.
