Good afternoon,

The College COVID-19 Case Count page has been active for 14 days and as you know, classes began 7 days ago. Today’s number is 23 cases of COVID-19 among our community that interacts on campus.

Last week a document was added to Onward Concordia that described the process for evaluating the COVID-19 risk level on campus and corresponding planning.  We continue to assess and manage based on the indicators in the scenario levels document. Concordia is currently in the low to medium range of COVID-19 risk level.

Our campus-related cases appear to be community spread – or social interactions - whether at home before coming to campus or among social circles. Our current information indicates this is not classroom spread. We are pleased with how diligent people are being taking advantage of the services of the Campus Medical Officer and getting tested either here or at another testing facility.

As we look at our community case numbers, our campus-related case numbers and several other factors noted in the scenario document, we are moving to some mitigation tactics to slow the spread.

Two tactics include

  • Delaying athletic team practices until Sept. 21, previously scheduled for Sept. 7.
  • Decreasing the group size and meeting frequency of our music ensembles

We selected these two groups because they encompass a large number of students and we can manage interactions through these more organized activities.

Secondly, we need everyone to understand you must social distance. There has been some confusion believing that if you are masked you do not need to social distance. The key is staying 6’ feet apart AND masking

We continue to monitor our collective campus health and will determine next steps based on our scenario indicators.
