Sept. 4: COVID Case Count
The current active COVID Case Count stands at 41 with 1 person now recovered.
While we don’t want to see numbers this high, we feel fortunate to have a testing site on campus. Our rising case numbers are driven in part by our rapid and accurate testing process which begins on campus. In most cases, we do not have to wait for the Minnesota Department of Health to indicate a positive test for us to be able to place it on our daily COVID Case Count.
As noted in prior communications, the college regularly consults with the Minnesota Department of Health epidemiologist for Higher Education. This collaboration is designed to both evaluate current case numbers and strengthen mitigation efforts as necessary. In consultation with officials today, MDH believes our current case numbers are well within expectations given the early point in the academic year and our close proximity to North Dakota where cases are surging right now. Our MDH contact also reviewed our scenario planning and determined we are on track with current and future mitigation tactics.
While it is good to know our planning and preparation measures are on track, this does not mean we aren’t keenly aware that each reported case is a member of the Concordia community. As a result, now is the time to do everything we can in our community to slow the spread of this virus.
Here is what must be done – beginning now
• Maintain physical distancing (6’ apart)
• Wear your mask
• Wash your hands frequently
• Do not attend any sizable gatherings
• Be outdoors when gathering in small groups
Finally, students who need assistance over the weekend should consult this matrix which explains who to contact.
Beginning tomorrow, we ask everyone - whether or not you are coming to campus or not - to fill out the COVID Daily Symptom Check. This information will assist ERT in considering on-going mitigation strategies as necessary.
