One of the defining problems of our times is how humanity will address the rapid depletion of finite natural resources. Our challenge is to ensure that the ecological systems on which we depend remain healthy as we seek to thrive socially, politically and economically in our communities. Individual choices and the structure of our societies have a profound impact on the ability of all people to meet their fundamental needs. We can draw on the collective wisdom of all people as we work to deal with the reality at hand.
Dr. Orr is the author of seven books including "Down to the Wire: Confronting Climate Collapse" and co-editor of three others. He has authored numerous articles, reviews and professional publications. He has served as a board member or advisor to eight foundations including the Rocky Mountain Institute and the Aldo Leopold Foundation, Bioneers, Alliance for Sustainable Colorado and the Worldwatch Institute. He has received numerous awards and lectured at colleges and universities throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia. He headed the effort to design, fund and build the Adam Joseph Lewis Center which was named in 2010 "one of thirty milestone buildings of the twentieth century" by the U. S. Department of Energy.
Dr. Schor is Professor of Sociology at Boston College. She is also a member of the MacArthur Foundation Connected Learning Research Network. Schor’s research focuses on issues of time use, consumption and environmental sustainability. A graduate of Wesleyan University, Schor received her Ph.D. in economics at the University of Massachusetts. Before joining Boston College, she taught at Harvard University for 17 years, in the Department of Economics and the Committee on Degrees in Women's Studies.
