The rich heritage of musical excellence within a liberal arts tradition is vital and active in the Department of Music at Concordia College. Concordia seeks to provide an intense, conservatory-level study of musical knowledge and skills within larger integrated experiences to wholly educate the young musician.
Forty-five nationally and internationally recognized music faculty members foster the highest level of musical skills in both performance and teaching, while an emphasis on creativity throughout the curriculum nurtures composers and arrangers. Nearly two hundred music majors are encouraged to design flexible musical careers for the challenges of the twenty-first century.
Music performance is simply a fundamental part of the Concordia experience as almost one-third of the entire student body participates in musical activities. You don’t need to major in music to be eligible to join one or more of the nineteen music ensembles in the Department of Music, participate in the annual Concordia Christmas Concert, or tour around the country or world.
Concordia music majors are involved in active careers following graduation. They are currently enrolled in leading graduate programs, teaching/conducting in primary and secondary schools, and performing as collaborative musicians in opera productions, orchestras, and churches throughout the country. In short, Concordia College remains an excellent choice for the young college student seeking musical quality and educational depth.
