The Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education
This degree is a liberal arts degree that completes that core curriculum like all other majors on campus. Students in this degree program gain a solid foundation in music while also having the benefit of a liberal arts education.
The Bachelor of Music Degree in Music Education
This degree is a professional music degree. Students in the degree program have more time dedicated to weekly lessons as well as a recital component in their senior year.
Both the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Music Degrees in Music Education lead to certification to teach in the public schools. The education courses are exactly the same for both degrees. As such, students graduating with either the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Music degree are equally prepared to teach and are successful in the public schools. The music education faculty feels strongly that offering both degrees allows for students to choose the path that is the best personal fit.
