Social work majors are encouraged to get out into the community as early as their sophomore year. We have partnerships with a variety of agencies in Fargo and Moorhead, so you can help low-income families make ends meet or new Americans find housing, among other opportunities. We’ll do our best to match your interests to areas of need.
Another thing that sets us apart from other programs is our small cohort. Once you’re admitted to the program, typically as a sophomore, you will have the advantage of taking your courses with the same group of students.

Faculty advisors in the social work program work with students who are interested in study abroad or study away programs to ensure students can both study off campus and complete their social work degree within four years. Often social work students take trips that focus on service and social justice, such as Justice Journeys and programs offered by the Office of Global Learning.
After countless volunteer experiences, your social work studies will culminate with a 480-hour internship your senior year, leading many of our grads straight into full-time work.Learn More
