In recognition of excellence in speech or debate and the potential for outstanding contributions to the Concordia community, the college has established Speech and Debate Scholarships. Scholarship amounts for the 2018-19 academic year range from $2,000 to $6,000 per year.
Additionally, highly qualified candidates may be named as Paul J. Dovre Forensics Scholars. These awards will be made from the pool of applicants for Speech and Debate Scholarships and will utilize the same application process. Dovre Scholar awards are $25,000 per year and may not be combined with any additional Concordia College application, merit- or talent-based scholarships.
Historically, many speech and debate scholars have been strong candidates for top-tier academic scholarships. We strongly encourage all students who are eligible for the Presidential Distinction Scholarship to apply for this top academic scholarship.
To be eligible for a Speech or Debate Scholarship, you must be an incoming first-year or transfer student who has been accepted to Concordia College, have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (non-weighted), and have exhibited proficiency in speech or debate. The initial screening will be based on the short Speech or Debate Scholarship application, which includes a forensics résumé and brief statement related to your forensics accomplishments.
