Dr. Peggy J. Johnson
Instructor, Organ, Church Music
Throughout her career as a church musician and teacher, Dr. Johnson has as served as music director and organist for Lutheran and Episcopal parishes around the world, including Turkey, The Netherlands, Hawaii, Ohio, Colorado, North Dakota, and Minnesota. Currently, she holds concurrent appointments at Concordia College, Moorhead, MN where she serves as organ faculty, and as music history faculty at NDSCS, (Fargo, ND campus), and M|State, (Moorhead, MN).
Dr. Johnson is nationally recognized in the area of music education for organists and has been a workshop presenter at the local, regional, and national levels for the American Guild of Organists and the Anglican Association of Musicians, with particular emphasis on new music for organists. To that end, she is also the coordinator and a faculty member for the NW Minnesota and North Dakota Leadership Program for Musicians – a nationally acclaimed teaching program of the Lutheran Church (ELCA) and Episcopal Church (ECUSA) that provides local church musicians opportunities for study which provides them with an increased sense of vocational awareness, along with the tools and resources to enable congregations to sing well and participate actively in worship.
In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Dr. Johnson has been certified as an Andover Educator focusing on somatic awareness and ease of movement for musicians.
Dr. Johnson is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music. Her diploma in organ performance was mentored by Dr. Roberta Gary, chair of keyboard and organ studies at the Conservatory. Her other teachers and coaches have included Dame Gillian Weir, Susan Landale, Ludger Lohmann, Bernard Lagace, Barbara Conable, and Robert Cavarra.
