Dr. Stephanie M. Carlson
Instructor, Oboe, Music History
Dr. Stephanie Carlson is Instructor of Oboe at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she teaches applied oboe, chamber music, the double reed component of woodwind methods, and Introduction to the Art of Music. She holds the Doctor of Musical Arts in oboe performance (with a minor in bassoon) and Master of Music degrees from the University of Georgia, where she studied oboe with Dr. Dwight Manning and Dr. Reid Messich and bassoon with Dr. Amy Pollard and Dr. William Davis. She received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Baldwin-Wallace College Conservatory of Music in Berea, Ohio, as a student of Elizabeth Camus of the Cleveland Orchestra. She currently performs with the Concordia Wind Quintet and as second oboist with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony. She has also performed with Symphony Orchestra Augusta, the GAMAC Chamber Orchestra, the Southern Wind Quintet, and the Georgia Double Reed Ensemble (at the 2008 International Double Reed Society Conference in Provo, Utah), among others. Prior to her appointment at Concordia, she served on the faculty of the Atlanta Music Academy, taught at the Encore! Music Camps, and was in high demand as an educator and clinician in Atlanta and Athens area schools.
