Abigail Van Klompenberg is an Assistant Professor of Music Education, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in music education. Dr. Van Klompenberg also supervises student teachers in Minnesota and North Dakota, including placements in elementary general music classrooms and secondary performing ensembles. Before teaching at the collegiate level, she taught K -12 general music and choir in Arizona, Texas, South Carolina, and Kentucky. She is a National Board Certified Teacher in Early-Middle Childhood (Vocal Music) and is fully certified in Orff Schulwerk by the American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA).
As a researcher, Dr. Van Klompenberg focuses on trauma-informed education, teacher mental health, and preservice music teacher education. She has presented at numerous conferences across the United States, including the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) Biennial Conference, the Symposium for Music Teacher Education, the Mountain Lake Colloquium for Teachers of General Music Methods, and the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) conference. Her work has been published in several journals, including The Mountain Lake Reader, Teaching Music, The Orff Echo, and Visions of Research in Music Education.
Dr. Van Klompenberg holds a Ph.D. in Music Education from the University of Kentucky, a Master of Music in Music Education from Arizona State University, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Western Michigan University.
Dr. Van Klompenberg is a member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the Society for Music Teacher Education (SMTE), and the American Orff Schulwerk Association (AOSA). She currently is the faculty advisor for Concordia College’s cNAfME chapter.
In her free time, Dr. Van Klompenberg enjoys yoga, movies, and spending time with her husband, Martin, and their rescue dogs, Luna and Sirius.
