Dr. Isabella Kolasinski is the assistant professor of horn at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she teaches applied lessons, horn techniques, music history survey courses, coaches chamber ensembles, and directs the Concordia Horn Choir.
Prior to her current position, Dr. Kolasinski was the visiting assistant professor of horn at the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. In addition to teaching, she regularly performed and toured with the Potsdam Brass Quintet, one of America's oldest continuously active professional brass quintets.
Earlier in her career, Dr. Kolasinski was an active performer and educator in Phoenix. She served as second horn of the West Valley Symphony and performed with the Phoenix Symphony, Symphony of the Southwest, Musica Nova Orchestra, Phoenix Brass Collective, and the Arizona Philharmonic. She has also appeared as a guest artist with the Chamber Music Silicon Valley Festival in San Jose, California, and the International Pride Orchestra in Houston. Her teaching and coaching engagements have included serving as staff of the prestigious Cormont Horn Camp in New Hampshire and working as a guest artist and chamber coach at the Saarburg International Music Festival in Saarburg, Germany.
Her research is dedicated to the exploration of underexplored works from the mid-20th century, with a particular focus on music for horn and fixed media. As part of her academic research, she recorded Scottish composer Janet Beat’s “Hunting Horns are Memories” for horn and fixed media, the first and only recording of this work, and Canadian composer Hildegard Westerkamp’s “Fantasie for Horns II” for horn and fixed media. Other notable recordings on which she is featured include John Stevens’ brass trio “Triangles” and the Arizona State University Wind Ensemble’s recording of Steven Bryant’s “Ecstatic Waters” for band and fixed media (release pending).
Dr. Kolasinski holds degrees from Arizona State University, the University of Michigan, and the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. Her primary teachers are John Ericson, Adam Unsworth, Bryan Kennedy, Lauren Becker, and Kiirsi Johnson.
