Professor Zietz came to Concordia after an accounting career that included both public and private work. She began her career at Eide Bailly doing both tax and audit work in a variety of industries. She then worked at Appareo Systems as the accounting manager. Appareo is a custom engineering and manufacturing company that focuses on agriculture and aerospace electronics. Professor Zietz’s experience also includes Discovery Benefits, a third party administrator of employee benefit plans including COBRA, HSAs, FSAs and HRAs. At Discovery Benefits, she started as the controller and oversaw all accounting functions for the company and later moved to the role of director of financial planning and analysis. She has a passion for creating effective and efficient processes in an organization using innovation and technology.
Professor Zietz’s classes focus on applying the fundamental skills, theories and concepts to problems and real-world examples. Her experiences in public and private accounting provide an abundant source of real-life experiences to help students prepare for their careers. She believes active involvement in the classroom engages the students. She structures classes to create an energizing and engaging environment through student participation, group collaboration and real-world problems. Professor Zietz believes her role is to mentor the students as they strengthen their skill set. She hopes her class design accommodates various learning styles to ensure students are given many opportunities to develop and show their knowledge of the material.
