Hey! My name is Hope Knoppel. Let me first start by saying studying abroad has been the most rewarding and life changing experience of my life. Visiting Australia was always at the top of my bucket list. However, instead of just vacationing there, I had the amazing opportunity to both study and immerse myself in the Australian culture for four amazing months by attending the University of the Sunshine Coast.
When I first heard about the Australian study abroad program, it did not take much convincing for me to choose to go to a place named the Sunshine Coast. As a last minute bonus, I learned that the campus was on a wild life preserve that had a family of 50+ wild kangaroos that hopped freely about campus. Once there, I took classes that covered my major in marketing, minor in computer science and data analytics, and a few generals. It took a little while adapting to the Aussie teaching style, but it also taught me new ways that work better for me when it comes to learning and studying.
During my free time, I was able to experience some cool things such as seeing and touring the Sydney Opera House, attending the Melbourne Cup, seeing a real Panda in Adelaide, and so much more. I also got to meet many lovely people from all over the world some of which I still keep in contact with. This experience pushed me out of my comfort zone which has helped me grow even more as a person and become more responsibly engaged in the world.
