Bring a Windows or Apple laptop with Microsoft Excel 2016 installed (access to other software will be provided). Complete the pre-course instructor survey regarding data analytics usage in your organization at least two weeks prior to the class. This survey will be sent upon registration.
Dr. John Reber - Associate professor of mathematics, Concordia College
Dr. John Reber is an associate professor of mathematics at Concordia College. He received his Ph.D. in Statistics from North Dakota State University and has been teaching statistics, data analytics and mathematics at Concordia for the past nine years. As a data analyst, Dr. Reber has advised and consulted on over 100 research and business projects. He has also coached Concordia’s Data Analytics team to three consecutive first-place victories in the Midwest Undergraduate Data Analytics Competitions.
Dr. Todd Trautman - Director of analytics, Kaiser Permanente
Dr. Todd Trautman is Director of Analytics for Kaiser Permanente’s Data Analytics and Reporting Excellence program in the Colorado Region. Kaiser Permanente delivers care to over 11 million members in Colorado by combining a health insurance plan with a multispecialty physician group.
Dr. Trautman has responsibility in the Colorado region for metric governance, analytic workforce development, and driving adoption of methods, processes and tools used by 150 analysts in the region. He also leads an advanced insights team that uses the data available in one of the largest integrated health care systems in the United States to improve clinical and financial outcomes. In the past few years, his teams have developed predictive models for progression of pre-diabetes, chronic kidney disease heart disease, and membership churn. Teams within KP are using both traditional SQL relational databases as well as NoSQL technologies such as graph and Hadoop databases. Visualization and analysis tools cover a broad spectrum including SAS, Microsoft Excel, Tableau, R, Cognos, and Business Objects.
He earned his Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Illinois – Urbana, M.A. from Kansas State University, and B.A. from Concordia College. He holds an appointment to the Graduate Faculty of University of Colorado - Denver in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems. He has been an invited speaker at local, national and international conferences.
Ben Dold - Senior director of marketing insights and consumer sales, Midco Inc.
Ben Dold is responsible for customer acquisition and retention efforts through research, data modeling and forecasting for Midco services. He also leads the inside sales team, providing a strong connection between marketing and sales efforts. Dold earned an MBA from St. Cloud State University and a bachelor’s in economics at St. John’s University. In 2015, he was named to Prairie Business Magazine’s top 40 under 40.
