Dear New Cobber,
Welcome to Concordia College! My name is Amanda Pieters and I am the Assistant Director of Orientation and First-Year Transition Programming. You can find my office in the Student Development and Campus Life Suite, Academy Hall 101. One of the parts of my job is advising the Orientation Team. This is a group of upperclass students who are passionate about making your transition to college a smooth one. They have drawn on their own experiences as new students to Concordia to help ease the stress of starting college. The Orientation Team and I are excited to welcome you to campus and to help kick off your college career with Orientation Week.
Concordia is dedicated to making your transition the best it can be. A few of the programs designed to help with your transition to college are: Fall Orientation and the First-Year Transition (FYT) Labs. Come August, Fall Orientation takes place for four days prior to the start of class. Fall Orientation begins Sunday, August 27, 2017, and ends with Convocation on the first day of class, Thursday, August 31, 2017. Events during Orientation are designed to help you acclimate to the campus, community and classroom. Two Orientation Leaders (OLs) will guide you through this time. Finally, you will be in a FYT Lab. This required lab is an extension of Orientation and addresses things like time management as a student, choosing a major, overcoming failure, building relationships and campus resources. It is attached to your Inquiry Seminar class and occurs six times throughout first semester. One of your OLs will continue into the semester with you to facilitate these labs. All of these programs are designed to be fun and educational to help you have a strong start to your first year.
Best wishes as you begin your journey!
