Established on 08.12.2017 by Robert S. Dryden '61

Bob Dryden, a speech and theater major, produced Show Boat, the first musical theater production at Concordia. He was also an active participant in the student productions of Oklahoma! and Song of Norway and other college theater department productions. While teaching speech and theater at Twin Valley High School, MN, Bob returned to Concordia to direct The Pirates of Penzance and The Music Man. He went on to produce and direct theater at Ely Community College, MN, at Oak Park and River Forest High Schools, IL, and for the last 27 years of his career at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, MN.

Linda (Hoghaug) Dryden was a music major who sang soprano in the Concordia Concert Choir. While in college, Linda, under the stage name of Nancy Evans, was a regular on WDAY-TV’s Party Line Show. She also performed the role of Marian the Librarian in the 1963 Concordia student production of The Music Man. Linda and Bob were married in 1964 and became the parents of four children – Lisa ‘88, Beth, Bret ‘91, and Daniel. Linda was also the owner of The Finishing Touch gift shop in Brainerd, MN. She continued to use her talents in musical theater productions and community and church choirs until her death in 2003.

The Bob ’61 and Linda (Hoghaug) ’64 Dryden Endowed Scholarship is awarded by the Financial Aid Committee to students who have declared music or the performing arts as their major or minor field(s) of study. Selection will be based on scholastic achievement and financial need.
