Judith Jensen Elgethun ’65 has enjoyed a nearly forty year career teaching vocal and instrumental music.  She earned her B.A. in Music Education from Concordia and toured with the Concordia Choir under the direction of Paul J. Christiansen. Graduate work was at the University of Northern Colorado where she received a Master of Arts degree in special education  in 1994. Her teaching career has taken her to Mound, MN, Moorhead, MN, Ft. Collins, CO, Florida, England, and back to Colorado. Judy has played violin with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, the Ft. Collins Symphony Orchestra, the Harrogate Chamber Orchestra (England), and has played 25 years with the Littleton Symphony Orchestra. She served two terms on the board of directors of The Denver Young Artists Orchestra.

Judy and her husband Ed deeply believe music education is about developing the whole person and that performance encourages team work, loyalty, perseverance, and helps build students’ self-confidence. It is in that spirit that they created this scholarship to encourage those Concordia students in Music Education who will in-turn inspire generations of students through music.

The Judith Jensen Elgethun ‘65 and Edward Elgethun Scholarship is awarded to a Music Education major with preference given to a string player. If there is not an eligible string player, then preference would be for an instrumentalist in the orchestra. Selection is also based on scholastic achievement and financial need.
