Established on 02.19.1982 by Helen R. Hauge

Gabriel Hauge was a son of Reverend Soren G. Hauge. He grew up in Hawley, MN, and attended Concordia College (1931-1935), where he was president of his class for three years and president of the student body in his senior year. He graduated summa cum laude in economics, while also enjoying forensics and recruiting for Concordia, and returned the following year to be Assistant Dean of Men. Under the George Chase Christian Memorial Scholarship, he attended Harvard University and received his Ph.D., before becoming a speech writer and Special Assistant for Economic Affairs to President Dwight D. Eisenhower (1952-1958). Switching to banking, he rose to be chairman of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company (1971-1979). He received a Doctor of Laws from Concordia in 1957.

The Gabriel Hauge Honor Endowed Award is awarded to two senior students majoring in business administration.  Selection is also based on scholastic achievement.
