Ray Julson grew up in Mendota Heights, MN. He knew he wanted to major in psychology upon arrival as a freshman at Concordia and added a second major in economics while studying there. Outside of his studies, he enjoyed singing in the Chapel Choir and attending daily chapel services. Upon graduation, Ray went on to pursue a master’s degree in industrial relations at the University of Minnesota. He was recruited by Exxon and retired from ExxonMobil after 30 years in various domestic and international human resources assignments.

This scholarship is dedicated to his parents, Lloyd R. Julson Sr. and Edith Kunneke Julson, who instilled in him and his siblings the importance of a post-secondary education. A well-rounded liberal arts education became the foundation of his educational pursuits. He attributes his long, successful career and resulting financial wellbeing directly to his education, hard work, and flexibility in accepting new opportunities presented to him. Ray hopes this scholarship will assist students in obtaining a liberal arts degree in preparation to go out into the world in line with Concordia’s mission.

The Lloyd Raymond Julson Jr. ’78 Endowed Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid with preference given to students majoring in psychology.
