Mission and service are central for Kris (Lomis) and Tom Simon. They are living examples of the Concordia mission statement in action. Both have impacted the lives of countless youth. Kris came to Concordia to study music education. Since graduating in 1979, she has been called to serve as a teacher, a youth minister, a church musician and an office administrator. Tom studied social work and sociology at Concordia and graduated in 1980. His was a call to serve in the juvenile justice system as a probation officer.

During her time as a church youth director, Kris saw firsthand the impact that Bible camps and those who served as counselors had on the lives of young people. Kris and Tom also witnessed the impact that camp had on their own children, Abby, Amanda ’08, and Peter ’17. That impact inspired them to create a fund which will provide scholarship support to Concordia students who share their gifts and serve at Bible camps.

The Lomis-Simon Summer Ministry Endowed Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to students who have worked as Bible camp counselors during the previous summer season.
