Berenice grew up on a Thief River Falls, Minnesota farm and is a 1934 alumna of Concordia College. She met Stanley Ostrom at Concordia but for 56 years they went their separate ways, coming together again in 1991. Berenice was married to George Elstad, who died in 1982. She and George had three children: Marilyn, Reeni and Gregory. Marilyn (1960) and one of her sons, Daniel Lamken (1989) are also Cobbers. Stan and Berenice generously invested their time, energy, and resources in their Alma Mater. When Berenice died March 26, 2009, the family chose to honor her memory by creating and funding this endowed scholarship.
The Berenice Loftness Elstad Ostrom Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid. Selection is based on financial need and scholastic achievement.
