Ruth Mandsager Peterson '55 attended Concordia and graduated with a degree in sociology and psychology. Following graduation, she accepted a parish staff position in Casper, Wyoming at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. There she met and married her husband, a 1949 graduate of Saint Olaf College, Clarence M. Peterson. They moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where they were blessed with two children, Eric and Sonja. The remainder of their years were spent in the Denver, Colorado area. While attending a recent Concordia homecoming celebration, Ruth was moved to create a scholarship for students who will bring ethnic diversity to the campus, so that all students will have the opportunity to encounter, respect, and appreciate the worldwide view of a diverse culture.

The Ruth Mandsager Peterson Endowed Diversity Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to students from underrepresented populations. Selection is based on scholastic achievement and financial need.
