Established on 03.09.2022 by Dr. Rachel '08 and Eric '07 Rodel

Dr. Rachel Rodel grew up in Fargo, ND, and graduated from Fargo South High School before attending Concordia College. She majored in chemistry and Spanish with a minor in mathematics. She attended medical school at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN. She completed OB/GYN residency in Phoenix, AZ, at Banner University Medical Center. She completed her fellowship training in maternal-fetal medicine at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, CO. Rachel is now working as a maternal-fetal medicine physician and volunteers with medical school activities as well.

Eric Rodel grew up in Bird Island, MN, and graduated from BOLD High School before attending Concordia College. He majored in accounting with a minor in business. He played on the Cobber football team for four years and was captain his senior year. He is a licensed CPA in the state of Minnesota. He is a leader in corporate financial accounting for an international hospitality company.

Rachel and Eric met at Concordia while playing on the basketball and football teams, respectively. They have created this endowed scholarship out of gratitude and appreciation for their experiences at Concordia. Rachel is particularly grateful for the friendship, teaching, and advocacy of Diane Yard who she worked for in the alumni office while Family Weekend Chair and for the outstanding mentorship of Dr. Ivan Johnson and the program he developed for acceptance into medical school. Eric is grateful for friendships formed with teammates and the exceptional leadership of Terry Horan and his coaching staff.

The Dr. Rachel and Eric Rodel Future Physician Leader Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to one or more students in the pre-medicine program who display the highest potential for a successful career in medicine. Preference will be given to junior or senior students who demonstrate the qualities of perseverance, passion, high academic achievement, and a relentless pursuit of their goals, empowers those around them and advocates for diversity, women's health, and gender equity. The Rodel's goal is to support future Cobber physicians in minimizing educational debt.
