Established on 10.04.2022 by Rev Jay '57 and Isa Spoonheim

Hap and Ann Spoonheim raised a family first in Williston, North Dakota, and then in Breckenridge, Minnesota, where they were active in both church and community. Hap, the local Great Northern Railroad depot agent, served on school boards, local civic groups, and was an active Rotarian. Both Hap and Ann were faithful church members and served, at one point, as joint Sunday School Superintendents at First Lutheran, Williston. They raised four children during the depth of the Great Depression with two attending Concordia College, Corrine Astrup (Class of 1943) and Jay Spoonheim (Class of 1957).

Hap and Ann joyfully instilled both faith and education as high priorities in the lives of their four children. All four siblings came to know how blessed they were by these values and spread them through their children and community service. This scholarship is meant to continue that joyful sharing of learning, service, and faith. The Donors hope that the students who receive this scholarship will live out the mission of Concordia College by influencing the affairs of the world through their future chosen vocations.

The Theron (Hap) and Ann Spoonheim Endowed Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to one or more students of any class or major from underrepresented populations who bring diversity to the student body, as defined by the College’s statement on diversity and inclusion which is periodically reviewed by the President’s Cabinet.
