Established on 07.14.1972 by the Estate of Dr. Nere Sundet

Nere Sundet was a physician in Kadoka, South Dakota. He grew up in Gary, Minnesota, graduated from Concordia College in 1930 and the U of M Medical School in 1937. Nere Sundet had a very strong commitment to both rural medicine and to young people from rural areas. That commitment was made evident in the fact that he provided home and support for numerous troubled and abandoned young people in his community. He helped several of those young people attend college, including a few who enrolled at Concordia. He also helped some of them go to medical school providing they agreed to return to rural areas to practice medicine. Nere Sundet was a loyal alumnus and a member of the Concordia Board of Regents. Upon his death in 1972, Sundet's estate provided for the creation of two endowed chairs, one in biology and the other in chemistry.

The purpose of this endowed fund is to support the Dr. Nere Sundet Endowed Chairs of Chemistry & Biology
