Concordia College is a special place for Carlton Urdahl, class of 1963, and his family. His brother, Loren, graduated in 1960 and Loren’s wife, Kathy Belgum Urdahl, in 1961. Their three children, Randall ’85, Anthony ’89, and Kara ‘91, and another niece, Alyssa ’03, are also Cobbers.

Carlton is abundantly grateful for his experience at Concordia and the opportunities it afforded him to explore his interests and discover his passions. From learning about the history of the Bible, to pursuing interests in math and German, to developing a lifelong love of singing in choirs, Carlton came to life at Concordia! He is especially grateful for the wonderful teachers he met including Frida Nilsen, Dr. Gerald Heuer, Frau Eglitis, Dr. Hiram Drache - to name just a few.

After graduating, Carlton taught German and mathematics in Granite Falls, MN, for ten years and then moved to Buffalo, MN, where he taught mathematics, including his favorite class, AP Calculus, for fifty years. He thoroughly loved his work! Outside of the classroom, Carlton has been a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, MN, where he sings in the church choir and has been a member of various global service teams, such as Habitat for Humanity and Thrivent Builds, that have built homes in Guatemala and Honduras.

With deep appreciation for his Concordia experience, Carlton established this endowed scholarship to provide an opportunity for students to attend and graduate from Concordia just as he did. Soli Deo Gloria!

The C. Urdahl ‘63 Endowed Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to one or more students of any class or major.
