Dr. Michael Culloton
Artistic Director, Conductor
Dr. Michael Culloton is an assistant professor of music at Concordia. He conducts the Concordia Chapel Choir, Kantorei, and Cantabile, teaches music education and church music courses, and advises the student chapter of the American Choral Directors Association. Along with his duties at Concordia, Culloton is the artistic director and conductor of the Fargo-Moorhead Choral Artists and conducts the Trinity Lutheran Church Cathedral Choir. Previous to this appointment, has was the artistic director and conductor of Choral Arts Ensemble and Honors Choirs of Southeast Minnesota, both organizations based in Rochester (Minn.), for eight years.
Dr. René Clausen
World-renowned composer and conductor Dr. René Clausen has served as conductor of The Concordia Choir since 1986. He is the artistic director of the Emmy Award-winning Concordia Christmas Concerts.
Clausen has composed over 120 choral works that are performed throughout the world and The Kansas City Chorale recording “Life and Breath: Choral Works by René Clausen” won two Grammy Awards in 2013.
He has conducted All-State choirs in over 30 states.
Andrew Steinberg is Sanctuary Worship Director and Organist at Trinity Lutheran Church and Choral Department Accompanist for Concordia College, Moorhead. Steinberg holds a Master’s Degree in Organ Performance and Certificate in Liturgical Studies from Colorado State University, Fort Collins, studying with Dr. Joel Bacon. Steinberg is a graduate of Concordia College, studying with Peter Nygaard. Steinberg is frequently called on as a soloist as well as a collaborative accompanist in instrumental and choral activities featuring organ, harpsichord, and piano.
Steinberg has served as organist and worship director at congregations in the Twin Cities, Fort Collins, and the Fargo-Moorhead area. He helped develop and run the Celebration of Organ Week, in Fort Collins, which has brought world-class artists for a week of performing and teaching. He remains active as organist, collaborative accompanist, and teacher. Steinberg is pursuing a Doctorate in Collaborative Piano with Dr. Tyler Wottrich at NDSU.
Simon Fensom has served as Senior Pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church of Moorhead since 2013. Originally born and raised in London, England, he emigrated to the United States with a degree in Hospitality Management. Ten years later, having become a Lutheran through marriage, Simon received his M Div. from Luther Northwestern Seminary. Following ordination in 1991 he served three former parishes in Southwest Minnesota where he first heard Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir in concert, and has been following them ever since.
Married for 35 years to Nancy who works for the Alzheimer’s Association, they have a son, Gregory, who is currently a senior at Concordia College in Moorhead and a daughter, Catherine, at St Catherine’s College in St. Paul. Both Gregory and Catherine are three-year alumni of Minnesota All-State Lutheran Choir.
