Brianna Drevlow '16 has won The Summer Singers' Competition for Young Composers.
Her winning composition, “Eli, Eli,” will be performed by The Summer Singers in July.
A native of Thief River Falls, Minn., Drevlow graduated from Concordia College with a Bachelor of Music degree and is now pursuing a Master of Music degree in composition from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. She is also an active member in the Miss America Organization, holding the title of Miss North Star since September 2016. Drevlow was crowned Miss Minnesota 2017 in June.
In an interview with The Summer Singers discussing her win, Drevlow said, "I was so excited, not only because this group is incredibly talented themselves, but because they are willing to perform new music written by emerging composers."
The Summer Singers are a Twin Cities a cappella group made up of 24 singers. Drevlow's "Eli, Eli" was selected from more than 40 submissions and comes with a prize of $500 as well as a recording and three concert performances of the piece.
