Head Coach Joseph Murrey capped off the Cobbers’ playoff season by being named the MIAC Coach of the Year. He earns the award after leading Concordia to the conference postseason for the first time since 2011.
Murrey is joined by seniors Isaac Toivonen and David Schneck and sophomore Erik Porter as recipients of MIAC postseason awards. Toivonen and Porter earned MIAC All-Conference honors in singles play while Schneck and Porter earned All-Conference Doubles Team honors.
Porter was also the team’s selection for the MIAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
The three all-conference honorees mark the second straight season that the Cobbers have had more than one player earn MIAC postseason honors.
Murrey earns his first MIAC Coach of the Year in his second season at the helm of the Cobbers. He is also the first Concordia coach to win the award since Troy Hanestad in 2011.
Murrey helped Concordia go 5-4 in conference play and 11-11 overall. Both win totals are a huge step up from 2017 when the Cobbers won only two league matches and five overall matches.
Toivonen earns the third MIAC All-Conference award of his career. He went 6-3 in conference play as the team’s No. 1 singles player.
Toivonen was 12-9 in all matches. His 12 wins are the most by any CC player this season. Toivonen finished his career with 36 career singles wins. He finished his conference career with a 22-16 mark in singles play.
Porter garners his first-ever MIAC All-Conference award. Porter was all-conference in both singles and doubles play for the Cobbers. He went 5-4 in league play at No. 2 singles. He won four of his last five singles bouts against conference opponents and helped the team earn a spot in the conference tournament.
Porter was 9-13 in all matches and his nine wins was third most on the team. He now has 14 wins in singles play in his college career.
Porter teamed with Schneck to earn all-conference honors as the team’s No. 2 doubles squad. Porter and Schneck went 6-3 in league play. They won their first three MIAC matches of the year including an impressive 8-5 win over the doubles team from nationally-ranked Carleton.
