This week marks the beginning of The Concordia Orchestra’s two-week international tour to the Holy Land.
The orchestra’s first foray into this region will include performances in the cities of Bethlehem, I’billin, Ramallah and Jerusalem. Conductor Foster Beyers considers the tour an opportunity to answer the call of the Concordia mission.
“One reason I wanted to go on this tour is because it fulfills the college’s mission to responsibly engage in the world,” Beyers says. “I’m excited about the cultural interactions and the opportunitiy to share our music with students in Lutheran schools, many of whom have never heard an orchestra.”
The Concordia Orchestra tours domestically every fall and internationally every four years. And while previous tours have taken the orchestra to locations such as Italy, Austria and Hungary, Beyers acknowledges the special significance of this tour.
“It is such an honor to represent the college in such a historic place,” he says.
The orchestra returns to the U.S. May 19.
