All organizations must have a full-time faculty or staff member to serve as an advisor for the group. As a resource person, an advisor can help interpret and enforce college policies and provide some continuity to the group from year to year. Although an advisor’s role will vary depending on the group and situation, the advisor should meet regularly with representatives of the organization and attend as many of the organizational meetings as possible. The organization’s officers and advisor need to negotiate the role the advisor will play with the specific organization.
