In recognition of excellence in speech and the potential for outstanding contributions to the Concordia community, the college has established Speech Scholarships. Scholarship amounts for the 2021-2022 academic year range from $2,000 to $6,000 per year. We also offer a select number of Dovre Scholar awards in the amount of $10,000 per year to exceptionally talented speech students.
The scholarship deadline for Fall 2021 is Jan. 1, 2021. If you need to request an accommodation for this deadline, please contact Brandon Wente.
Additionally, highly qualified candidates may be named as Paul J. Dovre Forensics Scholars. These awards will be made from the pool of applicants for Speech Scholarships and will utilize the same application process. Dovre Scholar awards are $10,000 per year and may be combined with Concordia College academic scholarships.
To be eligible for a Speech Scholarship, you must be an incoming first-year or transfer student who has been accepted to Concordia College, have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (non-weighted), and have exhibited proficiency in speech.
The initial screening will be based on a scholarship application and an essay. The essay topic for your application is: "What is your speech process? Explain from topic selection to performance. Be specific - take us through it step-by-step."
