Dear Concordia Faculty and Staff,

A special meeting of the Corporation Assembly of Concordia College took place on April 20, 2022, in which the voting members of the Assembly approved a Board of Regents endorsed change to the Corporation Bylaws by unanimous vote.   A two-thirds vote of the voting members of the Corporation Assembly is needed to adopt this type of change.  Please see the new language below, with the additional language underlined and the deletion noted with a strike through.

ARTICLE TWO, Section 12, amended d.:

d. The President of the College shall be a member of the Church demonstrate a deep understanding of and commitment to the mission, vision and values of the College, and Lutheran higher education.  The President shall recognize the historic relationship between the College and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and shall work to sustain and nurture the College’s affiliation with the ELCA.  The President shall be a professing Christian who is in good standing as a member of a Christian congregation.

The new bylaw language more clearly articulates the value of Lutheran higher education and affirms the college’s longstanding relationship to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA).

The new language strengthens the explanation of the qualifications and deep commitments one must have to be selected as the president-elect of Concordia College, which will aid presidential candidates in their own discernment process.  Additionally, the language provides the search committee with a framework to use in evaluating which presidential candidates can best demonstrate the requisite qualifications and commitments.

We are grateful for the dedication of the voting members of the Corporation Assembly of Concordia College.  The next regular meeting of the Corporation Assembly will occur on campus on September 29, 2022.
