Established on 12.07.2022 by Rev. Roger A. Domyahn, Ph.D. '58

Roger Domyahn grew up in Mott, North Dakota, located in the western part of that state, and graduated from Concordia College in 1958, having double-majored in psychology and history with a minor in mathematics. He attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul, MN, and after graduating from Luther, married his first wife, Evonne Flaa ’60, whom he had met while at Concordia. Evonne graduated from Concordia with a sociology and psychology double major. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Mark and Nathan.  Evonne died in 1993; Roger later married Marlayne Johnson in 1998; they made their home first in Fargo, ND, and later Edina, MN, until Marlyne’s death in 2017.

Roger, Evonne, and Marlayne dedicated their lives to serving Jesus Christ through service to others; Roger through his work as a Pastor, Chaplain, and director of education at a medical center and in Christian mass-media communications (both in Taiwan and in the United States); Evonne through her career in social work and at Lutheran Social Services (ND/MN); and Marlayne (a Lutheran Bible Institute alumnae) through her parish and outreach work in various roles with Lutheran organizations such as the Holden Village, Mount Carmel Ministries, the Lutheran Church in Liberia, and the ELCA.

The purpose of this endowed scholarship is to provide educational assistance, support, and encouragement to students who desire a Concordia education. Rev. Dr. Domyahn hopes that students receiving this scholarship will be able to achieve their highest potential in preparing for their life’s work to help humankind.

The Domyahn Family Endowed Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to one or more students hailing from North Dakota, with a preference for students from western North Dakota and for those in programs of study that serve humankind through the helping professions such as: psychology, sociology, religion, social work, education, nursing, pre-health professions, and nutrition and dietetics.
