Gloria Nielsen Ellefson ’55 was born in Wilton, ND. She attended Concordia College for two years where she met her husband, Dwight Ellefson, sang in the Chapel Choir, and was voted Queen of the 1952 Carnival. She went on to graduate with a B.S. in Mathematics and Education from the University of Minnesota and later a Masters in Computer Science. Married nearly 62 years, she raised three daughters in Colorado, was active in her church, and was an able helper to her husband, who was a Lutheran minister. Mathematics was her passion, and she was a gifted and dedicated teacher of high school math. Gloria was always available to her students who needed extra help. She encouraged many girls to study as much math as possible. It is with joy that Gloria’s passion is honored through this scholarship to encourage Concordia women to pursue mathematics.
