Established on 03.27.1997 by Concordia College Auxiliary Services Staff

Brian Horner was born in Marshall, MO, and moved with his family to Moorhead, MN, in 1972 where he attended Moorhead Public Schools. He was vice-president of his senior class and captain of the varsity soccer team at Moorhead High his senior year.  Brian was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and was president of their Youth Group. Following his graduation in 1991, Brian attended Concordia College where he planned to major in hospital administration and Spanish. Sadly, Brian passed away in February 1995 and earned his bachelor’s degree posthumously in May 1995.

While at Concordia, Brian worked as a student manager in the college’s Auxiliary Services and was a beloved member of their team. To honor his memory, his coworkers established the Brian Horner Scholarship on March 27, 1997.

Members of the Auxiliary Services Staff have faithfully contributed to the scholarship since 1996 and others have added to the balance by tipping Auxiliary Services Staff at campus events. The principle balance of the fund has grown to well over $100,000.00 and, as of 04-30-2023, has awarded $57,776.00 in scholarships since it’s first award during the 2004-2005 academic year.

The Brian Horner Endowed Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to students in their sophomore, junior, or senior year, with preference given to students who have worked two or more semester in Auxiliary Services. Selection is based on financial need and scholastic achievement.
