The Rev. Ernest G. Larson Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Established on 12.13.1993 by Rev. Dean Larson
The Rev. Ernest G. Larson Memorial Endowed Scholarship honors the life and legacy of a Lutheran pastor, educator, and servant leader whose commitment to faith and Christian education influenced generations of students. Rev. Larson served as president of Oak Grove Lutheran High School beginning in 1959, bringing together his pastoral calling and his conviction that education should prepare young people for lives of purpose, leadership, and service. His installation as president marked the beginning of a period of dedicated leadership rooted in both academic excellence and spiritual formation.
Throughout his years at Oak Grove, Rev. Larson consistently emphasized the development of the whole person. In messages written to students and families, he encouraged young people to seek knowledge, cultivate character, and anchor their lives in Christian faith. He viewed education as more than preparation for college or a career; it was an opportunity to help students become thoughtful, compassionate, and faithful leaders.
Those closest to Rev. Larson remember him as a man guided by three enduring commitments: faith, family, and pastoral service. These qualities inspired his son, the Rev. Dean Larson, to establish this scholarship following his father's passing, extending Rev. Ernest G. Larson's lifelong commitment to Christian education and ensuring his legacy continues to influence future generations of Cobbers.
