Concordia ties run deep for Lowell and Viola “Vi” Thompson. Both 1957 graduates, Lowell and Vi, were pleased that their two sons also attended Concordia. Mark ’82 (Lori) and Jon ’85 (Rhonda ’86) represented the second generation of Thompson Cobbers. The Thompsons have four grandchildren - Kristin ’12, Erik ’14, Maddie, and Jack – and one great-grandchild, Connor Gilman. Lowell, originally from Milan, Minn., graduated with a business degree. Vi was from Hoople, N.D., and earned an English major. Both of the Thompsons taught high school for a time. Lowell then worked for Aetna and Travelers Insurance Company. He started his own agency in 1975. Through their philanthropy and volunteerism, the Thompsons have been life-long supporters of Concordia and their church, Westwood Lutheran. Vi served as a class agent, and Lowell served on the Alumni Board. They both volunteered with reunion giving and through capital campaigns. They received the Soli Deo Gloria award in 2012.

The Lowell and Vi Thompson Family Endowed Scholarship is awarded by the Office of Financial Aid to one or more students of any class or major.
