My parents came from the Grand Forks area in 1913 and homesteaded in Montana. I was born at the homestead 20 miles southwest of Scobey. I went to a country school, graduated from Scobey High School, then attended one year of college at Northern Montana College at Havre, MT. I was then ready to teach school which I did for six years. I went to summer school but never achieved the goal of graduation. Over the years I did a lot of substituting at Scobey schools.

In 1941 I married Edward Tong, also of Scobey. We were in the Ford business and had farming interests until Ed retired in 1967. He passed away very suddenly on October 13, 1962. We had one daughter who graduated from Concordia College in 1965. She taught school in Sidney, MT, and Carson City, NV. In 1970 she married William Barney and lived in Billings, MT. Tragically, Anna Marie died June 22, 1982. I have a brother, Art Lund, who graduated from Concordia in 1942 and many nieces and nephews besides sisters-in-laws. I was always in my church and community and had many hobbies and crafts, besides golfing and playing bridge.

This scholarship was established in memory of our beloved daughter, Annamarie Tong Barney, a 1965 Cobber who majored in elementary education and minored in sociology.
