Concordia alumna named Supreme Court Fellow

Micayla Bitz ’20 has been selected as a 2026-27 Supreme Court Fellow. 

The Supreme Court Fellows Program is a highly competitive opportunity that provides mid-career professionals, recent law school graduates, and doctoral degree holders in law and political science with experience in federal court administration. 

Each year, the Supreme Court Fellows Commission selects four individuals for yearlong appointments with one of four federal judiciary agencies.

Bitz will be assigned to the U.S. Sentencing Commission, which establishes sentencing policies and practices for the federal courts.

During the fellowship, Bitz will gain experience in judicial administration, policy development, and education.

Bitz joins the program from the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, where she clerked for the Honorable Patrick J. Schiltz. She previously worked in private practice.

Bitz earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Concordia and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of St. Thomas School of Law. At St. Thomas, she served as editor in chief of the University of St. Thomas Law Journal.

While at Concordia, Bitz shared in a 2019 story how studying communications helped her understand how people connect through language, ideas, and shared experiences.
