DETROIT LAKES — The Concordia Orchestra is going on tour, and its first stop will be at Detroit Lakes' Historic Holmes Theatre for a Sunday, Oct. 29, concert.

While the Moorhead-based ensemble has played at the Holmes as recently as last November, orchestral music fans can expect to hear several new selections — in fact, one of them is a world premiere, according to Concordia Orchestral Director Kevin Sütterlin.

"To Face the Wind," an original composition from Concordia music faculty member Steven Makela, will make its debut at the Oct. 29 concert.

"It has been so cool to work on this project together," said Sütterlin of Makela's composition, which includes vocals written — and sung — in Chinese as well as a multimedia component, which will require some technical staff and vocalists to be added to the full ensemble of student and faculty musicians. In all, there will be about 75-80 people traveling on the tour, he added.
