CONCORDIA COLLABORATIVE ART EXHIBITION

Concordia College’s “Concentric Intersection” opens Monday, Nov. 19, and runs through Monday, Dec. 17, in the Cyrus M. Running Gallery. A public reception will take place from 4-5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in the gallery with artist remarks at 4:30 p.m.

“Concentric Intersection” showcases a collaborative exhibition between Bradford Hansen-Smith, a sculptor and explorer of the circle form, and members of Concordia’s campus and broader communities including art, geography, music, religion, mathematics, biology and others. The circle has had profound meaning throughout history and cultures. Hansen-Smith guided participants in a circle folding workshop designed to deepen understanding of the circle and inspire participants to explore the circle in their own areas of study. Says Hansen-Smith, “My exploration is as much about unity as understanding the nature of geometry and the enumerable possibilities of expression that satisfies my need to wonder… It is about movement and change.”

Gallery hours are 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. The gallery is closed during the Thanksgiving holiday, Nov. 21-25.

The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. For more information, call the art department at (218) 299-4623.
