Concordia Offering Free Training for Underrepresented Communities Through Spring and Fall Social Work Courses

First course begins with workshop March 9-10

Moorhead, Minn. -- Concordia Graduate & Continuing Studies has received a $34,000 grant from the Minnesota Department of Health to expand programming outreach and licensure opportunities for underserved and underrepresented community professionals to become qualified to serve as supervisors and mental health practitioners.

With the Mental Health Cultural Community Continuing Education (MHCCCE) grant, registration fees for the 2023 Supervision Training Courses this spring and fall will be waived and other supports provided for individuals from BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) backgrounds or underrepresented communities with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender identity, or physical ability. They must be residents of Minnesota and a licensed LICSW, LPC, or LPCC.

“Supervision is critical to professional development,” said Laurie Dahley, director of Concordia’s social work continuing education program. “We want to support rural communities and be able to offer training to people right in our region. This grant really helps us to be able to do that.”

The spring Supervision Course begins with an in-person workshop March 9-10 on the Concordia College campus. A fall course will be held Oct. 26-27.

The training is open to all social work and mental health professionals. It is designed to meet the Minnesota Board of Social Work and the Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy requirements for individuals working in or hoping to engage in a supervisory capacity.

Registration details can be found at ConcordiaContinuingStudies.com/SW.
